Hello Stumblers!
Yogi, the level designer of MrBeast’s latest map, took the time to answer some of the most asked questions from our amazing community. So, if you are curious about the creative process behind Mr. Beast’s Dangerous Traps, be sure to read on and learn more!
What was your inspiration for creating this marvelous masterpiece of a map?
Yogi: We worked closely with the MrBeast team to make the level and the traps in the video as conceptually close as possible. So the main inspiration was the first 3 traps in their video, but stumblefied.
What was the inspiration to make the jails and spikes part?
Yogi: Answered in the first question.
How much time have you spent making that map?
Yogi: Since conception until release it was about 3 and a half months.
Is there any way to go back to the top floor when you fall into the lasers area?
Yogi: No, the idea is that players only have one try at completing the shortcut each time they play the level.
After the event is finished, will this map be added to the custom games section?
Yogi: Yes, it will.
Why does the MrBeast basketball make you jump high instead of hitting you? Is that a bug or a feature?
Yogi: It’s a feature. The Basketball has the same effects as a trampoline would.
What is your favourite part of the map?
Yogi: It’s a tough battle between the Spike Room and the Laser Room, but I’d say the Spike Room. The visuals are really intimidating and impactful with the spinning spikes at the bottom, and there are a lot of different paths that the players can take to complete the area.
Have you worked directly with MrBeast or his team to make this map?
Yogi: Yes, we have worked closely with the MrBeast Team to make both maps.
Are there easter eggs from different maps like the other side?
Yogi: No, the easter eggs in this level are related to the Youtube Video MrBeast made about the World’s Most Dangerous Traps!
How is the process of creating a map like this? Do you first work on the concept and then create it in-game or do you work directly with in-game creation tools?
Yogi: The first step is the Concept of the level. During this process I received some information about the upcoming Beast video, and with that information I brainstormed how I could turn it into a Stumble Guys level. This concept has to be approved, and once it is, the level’s development is kicked off!
The concept is normally written, so to get it into a playable form we start the Block Out process. In this process we shape the level with Blocks. During this phase, the Art Development starts, it starts with a Concept Art and then 3D starts modeling it.
With the Block Out done, we start testing it internally, and with the feedback from our peers, we start shaping and improving the level. This also helps with finding bugs and fixing them.
After all this process, the level gets the 3D art implemented, and after some more internal testing and QA Testing, the level is ready to ship!
Thank you so much Yogi!! Anything you would like to share with the community??
Yogi: Thank you so much for participating on the Beat the Dev event! I was truly humbled by your guys' skill! I thought you were only going to be able to shave off 3 or 4 seconds of my time, but you guys definitely surprised me. It feels me with joy to see that you guys enjoyed the Traps level so much! Looking forward how you react to my next level.
